How our pottery is made
Every piece in our ASTRAT range begins as a ball of clay on a potter's wheel. It is thrown by hand, left to firm up, then trimmed and smoothed before its first firing.
Painted one piece at a time
The brushstroke motifs are painted freehand, which is why no two mugs carry exactly the same pattern. A blue arc sits a little higher on one, a yellow shape spreads a little wider on another. These are not flaws; they are the fingerprints of the maker.
Twice fired
After painting, each piece is glazed and returned to the kiln. The second firing sets the glaze into a hard, food-safe surface with the soft sheen you can see on every mug, bowl and tray.
Living with handmade
Because they are made and painted by hand, small variations in tone and shape are part of the character. Wash them gently, avoid sudden temperature changes, and they will stay with you for years.
